maybe you remember the old dos game Lemmings, in which you had to guide
those cute lemmings through very hard levels.
well...
they might have looked cute and dumb at the time, but they are back!
and this time they are serious.. a war broke out in Lemmings-land.
choose sides, and fight their war!
Lemmings At War is the ultimate combination of Worms and Lemmings. It is
a 2-player game!
this game is FREE. this means you can copy it and spread it around
as many as you like, without changing the contents of the game.

if the ingame sound doesn't work like it should, then try the following
options:
(1) Use VDMsound. this (very small) free program emulates a Soundblaster16
in any NT/2000/XP dos-box. it workes like a charm on Lemmings@War.
you can download it here:

(2) start the game with the nosound option, like this:
LEMWAR.EXE -nosound
or just start the game by running NOSOUND.BAT
this does however not disable the music.
.: QUICK GUIDE
.............:
for the ones who hate reading docs (like me),here is a quick guide:
- there are two teams, each human player leads one of them:
PURPLE = TEAM #1 (Bob, Fox and Ozz)
YELLOW = TEAM #2 (Jef, Ken and Lee)
- press ENTER to see your arsenal, move the selection box with
the arrow keys and select a weapon with ENTER.
- press SPACE to enter fire mode. use arrow UP and DOWN to aim,
and fire by pressing SPACE again.
- that's it. now read the rest of the manual if you get stuck!
.: LEMMINGS @ WAR MENU

in the main menu of LemWar you have the followin choises:
1. TEAM DEATHMATCH
the goal of TEAM DEATHMATCH is to blast the players of the opposite team
to bits. you each play with 3 players a teams. you can attack others and
defend yourself with an arsenal of weapons and tools.
the team that kills the entire other team wins!
during a players turn, the names of the players are stated when not pressing
a key for 4 seconds. the names of the players are stated in different colors.
PURPLE = TEAM #1
YELLOW = TEAM #2
2. CAPTURE THE FLAG
the game CAPTURE THE FLAG is a bit different. again each one has 3 players
in it's team. the goal is to capture the other players flag, and return that
flag to your home-base.
the names of the players are stated in different colors (press 'E'):
PURPLE = TEAM #1 (Bob, Fox and Ozz)
YELLOW = TEAM #2 (Jef, Ken and Lee)
the flag of the yellow team is in the yellow square. the flag of the purple team
is in the purple square. ofcourse the purple team has to capture the yellow flag
and visa versa.
: Capture a Flag :
..................
to steal the other flag, you just need to walk/jump/fall against it. after that
you need to get back to your own base and touch your own flag.
: Recapture your Flag :
.......................
if your enemy captures your flag, you can recapture it. just kill the player that
holds your flag. your flag will appear on the spot you killed him. now, just touch
your flag to return it to your home-base.
: Win the Game :
................
the first team that steels a flag an returnes it to his home-baseand jumps against
his own flag (which obviously may not be stolen at that time) wins!
3. INFO ON LEMWAR
this opens a screen with some general info. and a cool picture, guess from what
movie this screen is and you win a free version of LemWar (which is FREEWARE :)
4. QUIT GAME
obviously the most stupid option ;)
.: WEAPONS
.........:
LemWar features an arsenal of weapons and tools to make the life of the other
player misserable. here is a list of them, plus info on how to use them.
WEAPON/TOOL (AMMO) INFO
------------------ ----
Small missile (X) good weapon to 'feel' around in the level. perfect
for desiding the shooting angle for the next shot.
Big missile (2) the big brother of the small missile. does more
damage ofcourse and makes quite a hole.
Lava bomb (1) when this bomb hits the ground it creates a stream
of *HOT* lava. even if you don't get directly in
contact with it, but are to close to it, you'll get
burned.
great fun to trough in a hole someone just dug.
Guided missile (2) select the right angle and power, start the missile,
then select the target with the arrow keys and fire.
after 2 seconds the missile will go straight at
the selected target!
Shovel (2) with this you can dig trough any piece of the level.
to get a better shooting position, or maybe to get
the hell out of some place. using it will not end
your turn, so you can shoot after digging a hole.
your ammo is 2 per turn.
Dirt ball (2) want to slow down your opponent? want to fill a hole
so you can walk over it? use the dirt ball. it does
no damage, it's plain durt.
Dynamite (1) place it and run! or even better.. jump! you have 5
seconds to get out of the way!!! does real damage if
placed correctly.
Shield (2) protects your from 1 or 2 shots. great for skipping
a turn without leaving yourself unprotected.
Teleport (1) teleport yourself to any other empty location in
the level!
Cluster bomb (1) in the air this bomb splits up in 5 individual bombs,
each with another angle. all the bombs have the
strength of a small missile, but you will almost
always hit someone (or more!)
Uzi (3) if used right, this baby can do some damage. it only
works in a close range. still, it's more usefull to
blast holes with.
Stairs (2) like with the old Lemmings you can build stairs.
you get 2 stairs every new turn. they are a very
important tool. you'll find out why...
Handgranate (3) very useful to hit someone who is in a difficult spot,
unreachable for a rocket. just throw a handgranate and
wait 5 seconds! but be carefull: it might just bounce
right back at you!
Lasergun (1) if you are close enough you can use the lasergun to hurt
the other player, this beam takes away half his energy.
note that the laserbeam goes through every material (goes
through walls), but loses it's power after hitting 1
player.
(X) = you have unlimited ammo for this weapon
.: GAMEPLAY (HOW IT WORKS)

you control the little guys on the screen. to control them the game has 3 modes.
[WALK MODE]
When your turn starts, you are in the WALK MODE. You have 30 seconds to
move your player around the level.
for manouvring throug the level, you can use the following keys:
ARROW LEFT = walk left
ARROW RIGHT = walk right
ARROW UP = jump (just hit ARROW UP once, and you will jump)
ENTER = select a weapon (see info on WEAPON SELECTION MODE below)
S = Skip turn (to finish your coffee for example)
F = Frag list: you earn a frag by killing another player.
you loose a frag by killing yourself or a team member
SPACEBAR = enter Fire mode (see info on FIRE MODE below)
to quit the game, press ESC.
[WEAPON SELECTION MODE (press ENTER) ]
to choose a weapon, you can press ENTER. this will display you complete
weapon arsenal. under every weapon the amount of ammo is displayed in
GREEN DOTS. if there is a line under the weapon, it means you have
unlimited ammo. if you're out of ammo the weapon will display "out of
ammo".
in the "WEAPON SELECTION MODE" the keys are:
ARROW LEFT &
ARROW RIGHT = cycle through the weapons
ENTER = select a weapon
[FIRE MODE (press SPACEBAR) ]
if you have found the right spot to fire from, just hit the SPACEBAR.
depending on the weapon you choose, this will bring up the controls
to use your weapon.
generaly the keys are:
ARROW UP = aim up
ARROW DOWN = aim down
+ (*) = increase power (the + and - are on the Numeric Keypad)
- (*) = decrease power (the + and - are on the Numeric Keypad)
SPACE = fire
ESC = abort fire
(*) + and - are disabled for weapons like the Uzi and Laser. this is
because you can't set the power on these kind of weapons.
some examples for using weapons:
> to use for example the shield or the dynamite, you will only have to
press the spacebar once.
> to use the teleport press spacebar, then use the arrow keys to select
the new location. now press spacebar to be teleported to that location.
be sure the place you want to teleport to is big enough to fit your
player.
> and with the heat seaking missile, which you fire like a normal missile,
you must select the target with the arrow keys, and confirm with spacebar.
the rocket will launche like a normal rocket, but after 2 seconds, the
heat seaking mechanism will kick in.
.: LEVELS
........:
you can create your own levels. read all about it in LEVELS.ZIP. after you've
made your own level, just put it in the LEVELS folder of the game, and it will
automaticly be used!
also be sure to send the level to me! i will add it in the next release or make
a new mission pack add-on for LemWar.
.: MUSIC
.......:
the music files are HSC files. you can find more on the internet. if you want,
you can add more HSC files in the MUSIC folder. the game will recognize them
and use them automaticly.
.: SOUNDS
........:
you can also add sound effects. the sound effects used in the game are 8-bit
uncompressed WAVE files.
the sounds in the SOUNDS folder, are divided in 3 groups:
MISS = played when you shoot out of the screen border
HURT = played when a player gets hurt
DEAD = played when a player dies
if the files MISS1.WAV, MISS2.WAV and MISS3.WAV exist, and you want to add
a new WAVE file in the MISS category, then make sure it is called MISS4.WAV.
this way the game will find and use the new sound.

trademark of Team17. i made this game just for fun, not the money, so
i hope nobody got offended...
